Monday, July 12, 2010 The World Cup has finished, and Chmpions has re-opened and you can now enter, for next season, so please do so and spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested.
Sunday, May 16, 2010 The season is finally over - congratulations to Tom Godfrey, manager of Mid Table Obscurity who are champions. Also well done to Andrew Jenkins who was runner up.
You will be able to enter your predictions for next season once the playoffs are complete.
Friday, March 12, 2010 The table hasn't been updated for the last couple of months, because of a server failure. I have rebuilt the server now, and it will update every day (I hope).
Friday, August 7, 2009 The new season has kicked off with 75 entries this season. Good luck to everyone.
Sunday, May 31, 2009 The previous item was a bit premature as I had not allowed for the FA Cup final :-). This has now been included, and did not change the top three places, although it did have an impact further down the table and on May's manager of the month.
Tuesday, May 26, 2009 Another season over. Congratulations to Rob Gee who was the winning manager. Mentions also for Kris Witherington and Al Cleal who came second and Third.
You can now enter, for next season, so please do so and spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested.
Friday, August 15, 2008 Beter late than never. I should have opened up the site to allow entry ages ago, but kept putting it off. Then had a number of technical problems. Because of this the closing date for entries for the new season won't be until 22 August.
Also congratulation to Bill Hill, who won for the second season in a row, and to Tom Godfrey and Rob Oates who came second and third.
Saturday, June 30, 2007 Not much news for a while - that just shows how smoothly the competition has been running. Anyway the 2006/07 season has finished, and well done to the winner, Bill Hill who manages Do Us a Favour. You can now enter, so please do so. If you haven't played before you will need to register.
Saturday, August 5, 2006 Well the new season has started, and the competition has been closed with 102 entries. Good luck and come back often to check how well you are doing.
Monday, May 15, 2006 It's the end of the season and congratulations are due to Mark Bermingham who is the winner for 2005/06. Also well done to Liam Curran and Nick Hampson who came second and third.
Once the playoffs are complete you will be able to enter for the new season. Hope to see you then.
Saturday, August 6, 2005 The competition has now been closed for entries to the new season. A record 128 people have entered - good luck to everyone.
Wednesday, June 8, 2005 Fame at last! My Champions competition is mentioned in the Guardian's daily football newsletter, The Fiver. You can see it in the Fiver Letters section here, although I don't know how long they keep the page up for.
Saturday, June 4, 2005 The competition is now open for entries for next season. Please enter, or register if you have not entered in previous seasons. If you can't remember your username or password, please email me here.
Sunday, May 22, 2005 Another season over, and well done to Dan Wyrill, manager of Sid City, who is this season's winner. Once the playoffs are complete, I will open the website for next seasons entries, and will email everyone with there username and password.
Sunday, April 10, 2005 I believe the Champions scoring is working correctly again - at least until someone finds another bug, or until the format of the webpage that I take my results from changes again.
Monday, March 28, 2005 We're starting to get back on track. League matches are now being updated, but cup results are still missing. So expect some back-dated changes when these are available.
Sunday, November 21, 2004 Once again the automatic updating of results has failed because the format of the web page that I take them from has changed. Some people have no consideration for those who are nicking their data. I will be correcting this, but at the moment earning a living keeps intervening.
Meanwhile if anyone knows of a reliable, frequently updated source of English football results, please let me know.
Wednesday, September 29, 2004 Paul Harrison discovered that there was an error in the scores so far - this was because some of the early results this season had been ignored. Hopefully all is correct now, but let me know if you know different.
Sunday, September 19, 2004 The tables are up and running again, so check out how you are doing. Let me know if you find any errors.
Monday, August 23, 2004 The tables are not being updated. This is due to the loss of my original source of match results, and my holidays delaying the rewriting of the code to get the results from somewhere else. I am working on this now, and will get things up to date as soon as possible. Aren't you glad you are not paying for this :-)
Saturday, August 7, 2004 The season has started again (at last!) so the competition is closed to new entries. There are 89 teams entered this season - 9 more than last time. Good luck to everyone.
Monday, June 14, 2004 You can now enter for the 2004/05 season. Just go to the entry page.
Friday, May 28, 2004 Congratulations to Ali McKeogh the easy winner of Champions 03/04. Ali's was over 200 points ahead of Dave Pavey who came second.
Entries for next season will be accepted shortly after the playoffs have finished. All existing users will be sent a reminder, with their usernames and passwords.
Sunday, August 10, 2003 The closing date for entries for this season's competition will be Sunday, August 17th at Midnight. It has been left open because of the late reminders that were sent to previous season's entrants.
Tuesday, August 5, 2003 The site is open for new entries for the forthcoming season. Tell your family and friends to go to www.stevesearle.com and compete against you.
Sunday, May 18, 2003 Once again congratulations go to Mark York who was the winner of the 2002/2003 season. Mark came in ahead of Paul Harrison and Stefan Rance. Paul was May's manager of the month.
Entries for the 2003/2004 season will be accepted soon - if you have registered you will be emailed a reminder when you can enter.
Sunday, April 4, 2003 Congratulations to Mark York, who was April's manager of the month. Mark continues to be the overall leader, too.
Tuesday, April 1, 2003 Well done to Paul Harrison, March's manager of the month.
There is now a new honours page available giving the managers of the month and other milestones this season.
Tuesday, March 4, 2003 Congratulations to Stefan Rance, who was February's manager of the month.
There was also a bug that meant points from the Worthington Cup semi-finalists hadn't been included - this has been corrected so the scores are now correct (afaik). Let me know if you know different.
Thursday, January 30, 2003 Apologies for the long wait. After a month without an update, the site is working again (I hope). The source of my match results changed, and I had to recode to get them from an alternative web-page. I also have code in place to include the points scored from FA and Worthington Cup predictions, so the results should now be accurate, as well as being updated just after 10:30pm (UK time) each day.
If anyone can be bothered to manually calculate their results, and thinks there may be an error, please email me - I have only done a limited amount of testing.
Wednesday, November 6, 2002 At last! The table now gives results for each month, as well as for th whole season. Check to see if you were a manager of the month.
Note that the tables do not include Worthington Cup scores - I am working one these now.
Sunday, September 29, 2002 The table is now available on-line and should be updated on a daily basis from now on. Currently only the season to date total is available, but producing a table for each month is next on the agenda.
Monday, September 16, 2002 The changes to allow automatic updating and displaying of results are taking longer than anticipated, but I hope to have them completed in two to three weeks time. I will email everyone when it is up and running, to save people having to keep coming back here in the meantime.
Saturday, August 17, 2002 Champions 02/03 has closed for new entries and you are no longer allowed to change existing entries. There are 72 entries this season. Keep checking back as it will soon be possible to see how your team is performing.
Wednesday, August 7, 2002 There was an error in the entry screen that meant Cambridge United appeared in the second division. They were actually relegated to the third division last season. Those who had selected them in their entry have had Cambridge replaced by the lowest (alphabetically speaking) team they had not already picked. They have also been informed so that they can change there entry if they want.
Saturday, August 3, 2002 You can now take part in the 02/03 season if you haven't already done so. Enter now if you haven't already done so. If you entered the 01/02 competition you will already be registered and you username and password will be emailed to you shortly.
Saturday, May 11, 2002 Congratulations to Malcolm Allan, manager of House full of Freaks!! who are the winners of the 2001/02 Champions. Well done also to John Paul Flanagan and Paul Carter who came second and third. And to Gary Hughes who was May's manager of the month.
